I follow a line of crafty ladies. My grandmother possessed an old fashioned skill set that included quilting and crocheting when it was done out of necessity, not for recreation. My mom learned from her and is known in our community for 40 years of crocheting (she is also the owner of a craft and antique shop).
I like to think I have learned a thing or two from such exceptional role models and I am always trying new crafts. I'm not a clever DIY-er and rarely have the time to make pretty things.
But before the recent passing of my other grandmother, one of the last things I shared with her was my new craft; cross stitch. She smiled when I told her what I was learning and my many relatives that had gathered to be with her during those final days were always interested in the progress I was making.
Although I am most-definitely NOT a cross stitch wizard (the highest level attainable in the art of cross stitch) you are in control of the project; ranging from something simple to much more complex.

I wish I had known sooner how awesome cross stitch could be and had no idea how cross stitch was perfect for nerds like me!
* Inexpensive! The supplies required for most projects are much more budget-friendly than a lot of other crafty hobbies. My beginner level projects usually range at $5 or less.
* Simple! You don't need a massive pile of supplies that could take over an entire room in your house and the basics of cross stitch are easy!
