Bow Tie 5 - two pattern piecesBlow Tie block in PowerPoint

Bow Tie with Sham

Instructions

There are only two pattern pieces for this quilt. If you can print and enlarge the pattern to the left, you can use that as your pattern. If not, the measurements are on each piece and it's pretty easy to draw your patterns to use for cutting. The short sides are 1 & 6/8 inch in case it's too small to read.

For Each Block:

First piece - cut four - two solid colors and two prints (or all solids, but two should be lighter to give the look of a Bow Tie). I prefer prints and white. Second piece - cut one 2 1/2 inch square from print fabric which will be the center of the Bow Tie. Cut enough for the number of blocks you want. This depends on the size of quilt you want. Sew each blocks together as shown using 1/4 inch seam allowance -finished block will be 6 & 1/2 inches square.

Next arrange the blocks in the order you want them to be in the quilt top and sew those together using 1/4 inch seem allowance. Now you're ready to select your batting and your backing fabric and quilt.

Tips:

Be sure your "Bow Ties" are all lined up going the same direction. I once saw a Bow Tie Quilt where they were not going the same direction and it didn't look like a Bow Tie Quilt at all. It wasn't even that pretty.

You can use the same print for your Bow Ties throughout the quilt, use a different prints for each row, or use all different prints for each block. It's your project, so you can be creative.

HAPPY QUILTING!!!
