Hello and happy Saturday!
With spring right around the corner I’ve been looking at Pinterest for ways to boost the curb appeal of our little casa without spending a ton of money. One of the things I found on was to add a vinyl decal to your front door. There are a ton of different options available on Etsy but since I already have a snazzy Silhouette machine and I’m feeling crafty, I figured I’d make my own.
Ain’t it cute?
If you wanna see how it was done, keep on scrollin!
Here’s what you’ll need (besides a Silhouette):
- vinyl in the color of your choice
- Silhouette hook
- Silhouette scraper
- transfer paper
- scissors
Step 1:
First I measured my door to decide what size font I needed.
Next, using my Silhouette Studio and Sweet Tea font (appropriate, right?) I made my hey y’all.
Step 2:
Once I had the text just the way I sent it to print/cut.
Just a FYI; when I’m using cursive fonts I lower the speed to avoid the vinyl from tearing.
Step 3:
Once the design has been cut, use your Silhouette hook to separate the excess vinyl from the design.
Step 4:
Then apply the transfer paper to the vinyl and smooth with your Silhouette scraper. If you don’t have one of these a credit card will work just fine.
Step 5:
Make sure your door is wiped clean, then separate the transfer paper and the vinyl backing and apply it to your door. I used my Silhouette scraper to smooth out any bubbles.
Step 6:
Slowly remove the transfer paper, then step back and look at how spiffy your door looks.
I’m thinking it makes the dents in the door look a little better?
And, if saying hey y’all isn’t your thing you could always make one that says hello, welcome or one that has your house numbers.
