I originally wanted to spend today in my backyard enjoying some warm air and sun, and yet once again the lovely Maine weather decided it'd prefer to turn cold. I can't say I'm upset though, because it gave me a chance to get started on one of a two Mother's Day cards for two special mom's in my life. I know Mother's Day is a little bit away, but I knew I needed to get a start on it now because the next time I close my eyes it'll already be May. Time seems to be flying now, and even though I would've loved to spend time outdoors, this cold air helped whip me into crafting mode. Read on some more if you'd like to make a Mother's Day card, or even if you just want some inspiration.
I really wanted to have the card I made be simple, but elegant. I'm not big into throwing a lot of things onto a card, the main reason is because too much can detract from what the actual inside says. That means inherently more to me than any embellishments you can throw onto it. That being said, here's the method to my madness...
Equipment Used
- Laptop
- Cricut Explore
- Cricut Cuttlebug
- Tweezer Bee
- ZIG Memory System 2-Way Glue Stick
- Scotch Advanced Tape Glider
Supplies
- Brown Paper (1 Sheet)
- Pink Paper (1 Sheet)
- Green Paper (1 Sheet)
- Cream Paper (1 Sheet)
- Washi Tape (2 Inches)
Instructions
- Log into your Cricut Explore account, and start a new project.
- Insert the following two images into your Design Space: Anna Griffin Georgette Lace Gate Card (#M2B2728), and Art Deco's Standing Woman (#M3BEB9)
- Hit Go, and follow the onscreen instructions for your Cricut Explore. (I used the Light Mat's for my cuts).
- Lay out all your pieces.
- Start assembling your cut out lady using the ZIG glue and Tweezerbee. (Trust me on the Tweezerbee…)
- Fold the white card piece so that the seam is in the middle for opening, and set aside.
- Pull out your Cuttlebug, and choose an embossing folder you think matches best. Keep in mind you'll only be doing the gated flaps for the front of the card, not the whole card.
- Place the gated flaps in an embossing folder, lay it between the plates, on top of your spacer, and pass through the Cuttlebug.
- Choose where you'd like to place your standing lady, and use the Scotch tape to ensure a permanent bond on her placement.
- Choose what side you'll permanently fix the green seal onto, and use the Scotch tape again, but only on one side. Close your card, and use Washi Tape to keep it shut before it's presentation to the mom(s) in your life!
I enjoyed making this little card, and I know it's not the only one I have to make! I also love making cards, or any paper craft project in all honesty… I don't know why I started scrapbooking, but once I did I was hooked. Ironically I don't make much for myself, but it's such a nice thing to do for people. It's also just a great stress reliever, especially for those rainy days.
I hope everyone can get inspired for their Mother's Day projects! I know I was when I made this little card!
For any of you out there wondering what was at the bottom of my Design Space screenshot, it was my first attempt at a 3D rose.
