Mother's Day and Father’s Day are on the horizon, and let us not forget an end-of-the-year teacher appreciation gift might soon be needed for the junior set.

All that being said, everyone needs somewhere to corral their pens, pencils, markers and more. These fun and easy stitched desk accessories are so cute you might want to make an extra one for yourself. I did.

First you need mesh desk accessories. I see these everywhere, from the thrift store to the office supply store. I found my pencil holders in the Dollar Spot at Target.

For some reason this metal mesh is a popular desk accessory motif. You can find magazine holders, mail sorters, trashcans and (of course) pencil cups. The mesh just begs to be adorned with something a little more spiffy and less utilitarian.

After you have your desk accessories the next thing you need is thread and a needle. I used embroidery floss and yarn. Make sure you get a needle that fits through the holes in your metal mesh.

Stitch, stitch and stitch some more. There is no right or wrong way. Add flowers, mod patterns, stripes or initials. These are super-quick and easy and make a desk look extra snazzy.

So what will you stitch?

Office workers are not the only ones who will love these. They are great for that artist in your life to keep their brushes, or for anyone to keep beside the bed to wrangle earplugs and reading glasses (or in my case, a grade-schooler's homework caddy).
