My son is finally done with school, which I am so happy about, yet also terrified. This will be my first summer with three kids to juggle. It's hard when two are toddlers wanting to go go go all day and you have a baby who wants to be fed and cuddled all day. I already started planning some special things for each child this summer, but we usually just keep it low key. Lots of playground, pool, and library.
Since my two toddlers have different taste in books, Madeline loves princesses and Samuel loves robots, I decided to make each one their own library bag for this summer. My hope is they can each be "independent" of mommy carrying 100 different books. Plus, it was fun and easy to make. I even made one for myself.
I bought three canvas bags, some acrylic paint and iron-on decals. I wanted to put the kids hand prints on the bags in creative ways so they could have them as a keepsake later on. I am optimistic that these will be used for carrying books, but I am expecting them to turn into toy carriers half-way through the summer.
For Madeline's bag, we decided pink flowers were the perfect summer choice. After stamping her hand I added stems. She decided later there needed to be a sun, so we added one.
Samuel's bag was inspired by a picture he made at school of "The Very Hungry Caterpiller", that hangs in his room now. I just adore it and I figured it was an appropriate theme for a reading bag.
Finally, I couldn't help myself and my inner Martha came out, so I decided to make one for myself. I traced a golden retriever silhouette from my computer and then transferred it to a gingham fabric that I then cut out and fabric glued to my bag. I love the way it turned out. It fits me, don't you think?
