Make your own toothpick holder with sculpting clay

I've got a great project to share with you, a toothpick holder. I'm pretty sure I'm used to having toothpicks handy in my kitchen thanks to my mom who always had them out. So, now I feel the need to do so as well. I hadn't found a holder that I really loved, so I decided to make my own and you can too!

For this project, you'll need: Premo Sculpey oven-bake clay, parchment or wax paper, rolling pin, utility knife, round cookie cutter, oven, paint and glaze. With the leftover Premo Sculpey oven-bake clay from the seashell jewelry holder, I already had all the supplies I needed.

The most time consuming part is getting the clay soft enough to be workable. For this, just tear off a little piece at a time and just play with it like you did in preschool until it’s nice and soft. Once malleable enough, you can start mixing the colors if you wish to do so.

Once you get all the material you need ready, roll it between pieces of parchment paper with a rolling pin until it’s about 1/4” thick.

Next, trim the edges with a straight edge and utility knife to the desired dimensions, about 1.5” in my case.

Next, cut out the bottom with a cookie cutter. Mine was a 1” diameter circle.

Roll the sides along the circle to form holder shape. Carefully, pinch the bottom seam to meld the two pieces together.

Do the same with the back seam.

Bake in a 275 degree oven for 30 minutes. Let cool completely. If desired, add any paint details at this point. I colored the top edge with gold paint to give it a little extra sparkle and to cover the edge. Finish off by sealing with a coat or two of Sculpey satin glaze.

After 24 hours, your toothpick holder is ready to go!

Love the colors and the end product. Plus, it’s a project you can do in one day. Easy peasy!
