We have a lot to be thankful for this year--a new baby, home, family, friends, and Andrew qualifying for the Boston marathon. Thanksgiving can easily get skipped over for Christmas. I think I saw quite a few Christmas decorations out in the stores even before Halloween.
Growing up my mother was always a big stickler for Thanksgiving--remembering to give thanks and not focusing on the commercialism of Christmas. Of course it helps that she was born on Thanksgiving and her birthday always falls on or around Thanksgiving each year (since Thanksgiving is celebrated the fourth Thursday of the month).
My uncles always allude to the famous Tomato Soup episode, where they had to suffer through a dinner of Tomato Soup due to the alignment of my mother's birth with the regularly scheduled Thanksgiving dinner.
To give thanks and remember our blessings, I covered our outdoor table with some brown craft paper from Lowe's, and wrote down different items we are thankful for with black and gold sharpies.
The centerpiece is a bread bowl--a sort of cornucopia, with pumpkins, hydrangeas, peasant feathers, and the last yellow rose from our yard.
The "harvest" and "give thanks" pillows are from Dear Lillie, and the tablecloth is a plaid blanket from Home Goods.
The copper mugs made another appearance (also featured on my fall table here), and are joined by some mini velvet pumpkins I made for each table setting. You simply cut out a circle of fabric, sew a basting stitch around the top, fill with beans and top with some hot glue and a real pumpkin stem. Scrabble tiles serve as some quick and easy name plates.
Hope you enjoy my Thanksgiving table, and the season of giving thanks and spending time with loved ones.
