Marianne of Maui
Well, Hello, and here I am. This is my first blog on this site, and I am really looking forward to making the acquaintance of like minded people who love fabric, love to sew, create, and have an open mind to my unusual style. Not the run of the mill. But people who have bought my quilts have fallen in love with them. Some have went out and bought special display cases. Some have bought them by the half dozen. Some take them to quilting groups for 'oohs and ahs' and the wow factor. Anyone who has had the distinct pleasure of holding one in their hands...... has come away with a new appreciation for quilting that is done by hand withOUT the sewing machine.
But it is tedious. And yet, it can be so enjoyable you just cannot stop. Once you have successfully mastered making my quilt...... no other will suffice. When I first started sewing, I was not very successful. My mother said she felt sorry for the fabric. She chided me on how I could not run the sewing machine. When I moved to Maui, I had the good luck of meeting senior ladies, who did not grow up with the sewing machine. They taught me to be happy with handsewing. So that was what I strove to do. And when one of my seniors showed me how Hawaiian quilts were made, a whole new world opened up to me. You know, about thirty years ago, I did a sewing craft show and bombed. Noone appreciated or bought my work. But today, I have become the phoenix rising from those desperate ashes of shame!
So come with me, and take some time. Have a little patience and open your mind. You will find that if you start small, you can be proud of the smallest accomplishments and this will inspire you!
