I'm still chugging away at blankie. I have 11 1/2 squares to go, and then we get the fun of seaming (seriously, I think seaming is fun) and knitting on the border (I don't know yet whether I think that is fun). In the meantime, though, today I have a lesson in Knit Picks math for you. If you've ordered from Knit Picks before, this is likely to be a refresher.
I have a set of Knit Picks Harmony interchangeable needles. I've had them since shortly after I started knitting (awesome Christmas gift from my in-laws a few years ago) and I use them for everything. I love them. Straight knitting, big circular, tiny circular, regular-sized circular -- all of my projects are made on these unless there is a very, very good reason for them not to be (which would probably only be a specific challenge in the House Cup). Because they are used so often, sometimes my cable cords become unattached. I could probably fix that with glue, but that would require being the kind of person who has glue in the house (maybe once I'm a mom?). I've ordered a set of DyakCraft wood interchangeables to spread out the workload, but I'm not expecting to see those for a year or so. So, in the meantime, I push the cable cords back in, hope they won't fall out when I'm working, and order a new cable every once in a while.
This time, though, the cable I was using for blankie unattached, and I couldn't wait until I needed more things from Knit Picks to replace it (well, I could have, but I didn't want to), so I ordered a new one. This led to the classic Knit Picks problem: I was only spending $4, and there was going to be a $4 shipping charge. However, if I spent another $46, shipping would be free.
Knit Picks math dictates that you must spend the extra $46 to save $4 -- it's only logical. After all, I'll need yarn at some point (about 3.5 years from now, if my stash life expectancy calculation is correct), but I'll never need shipping that costs money when there's perfectly good shipping out there for free.
I'm pretty excited about my spoils, some of which are going to be used for patterns from What To Knit When You're Expecting, an adorable book my husband bought me for Mother's Day. Pictures!
This Swish Worsted is going to become Mummy's Little Dalek (so excited for this one!!!!).
