Twinkie chillin' with the quilt

Detail of one block
This quilt is one that I recently made. I have named it the Summer in France quilt. I chose a variety of blues and greens to coordinate with the patterned fabric on the border and sashings. That fabric is from the Michael Miller French Journal Collection and is called Architectural Stripe in Blue.
I loved that fabric when I saw it (and it was on clearance) so I really wanted to design a quilt around it. The quilt has a traditional layout with sashing and bright blue squares for accents in the corners.
I love the way it turned out. The quilt is lap sized and makes a nice quilt to cover up with on summer evenings.
The block pattern is called Shoo Fly. The block originated in the 1800's and was a very popular one taught to young girls learning to quilt. It's a very simple design to make (see instructions here) and can adapt to many different styles.
I tried out some free motion quilting (my first time) so there are some flaws to that part of the quilt, but once it was washed, the small flaws aren't noticeable.
It was a lot of fun to use a print as the starting point for my color theme. I hope this quilt will inspire you to do the same!
