Our Week With The Letter A

I posted earlier this week that Xander and I are starting what I’m calling “Mommy School” since we aren’t sending him to Preschool anytime soon.  This week we focused on the letter A and all the things that begin with it.  While I’m 99% sure most things I say go over his head, we’re having fun and the point of “Mommy School” isn’t getting him into Harvard, it’s merely exposing him to what he’s missing out on by not going to Preschool right now.  (However if he does go to Harvard I’m totally taking all the credit!)

Monday, we colored an A is for Alligator worksheet that I got off of google images.  I can’t give credit, because I really don’t know where it came from.  (I’ll do better next week!) We also had applesauce for our snack and traced our A Montessori Card and played with the Leapfrog Sun that sings the letter songs.

It sings “A says A, and A says Ah, every letter has a sound and A says A and Ah” It’s pretty annoying, but Xander loves it.  I bought it on eBay and it came with all the letters except L so I’m now on the hunt for the L.  Luckily I have a few weeks to hopefully find it.

Tuesday I had planned on going on an Adventure, but it rained so we read our Animal Alphabet book and then colored all the animals on a piece of paper.  A is after all, for Animals.

Look there's an A!

Wednesday it was sunny, so we went on our Adventure.  There is a pier here in Key West that I wanted to check out, and I figured it’d be the perfect place to look for Airplanes and Alligators.

Do you see any alligators?

AIRPLANE!

AIRPLANE!

Xander did the sign for airplane also, but of course I didn’t get a picture of that.  We didn’t see any Alligators, except for the one on Xander’s shirt.  We did see LOTS of fish though.  And we saw an Airplane so it was a success.  IMG_9299As we were leaving we realized there was an African Cemetery.  Another A! So we walked through that and read a little bit.  If you’re interested you can read about it here.

Look Mom, another A!

Thursday we made play dough and used the A cookie cutter.  Smarty pants found an A on the cornstarch jar that I didn’t even realize was there.  He has definitely gotten into this letter A business, and I’m super glad.

Today we used scissors and glue and made an Alligator inspired  by this blog.  Xander didn’t do so well with the scissors, but I went ahead and let him practice.

He had ZERO problems with the glue.  He glued the teeth and eyes onto the alligator then glued him to the blue paper.  We went to color his eyes and got a little sporadic, but it’s an alligator nevertheless.

We’ve loved the letter A, and I can’t wait until next week for the letter B.  Hopefully Xander likes “Mommy School” as much as I do.
