10 New Uses for Embroidery Hoops - Part 1 of 2

Look beyond the floss and needles when you pick up an embroidery hoop.  Think instead of your hoop as a way to display art, frame a picture, make a chalk board or perhaps hang your earrings.  Today I bring you part 1 of a 2 part series showing oodles of cute and crafty ideas using embroidery hoops that don't involve any embroidery.

The original post that gave me the idea of non-embroidery hoop round up was this clever door hanging laundry basket by Don't Disturb This Groove.  All you need is a hoop and a pillowcase!  Brandi took it a step further and sewed her own pillowcase and even stained her wooden embroidery hoop.  Now that is crafty.

I love to embroider, but I also love to use embroidery hoops for other things.  They are so cheap, easy to paint and come in so many sizes.  I dyed some old lace curtains hot pink, painted a hoop black and made this Joan Jett-esque embroidery hoop earring holder.  Doilies also work well.

See I told you.  Doilies look great framed in embroidery hoops too.  Mandy from The Haps shared her daughter Harper's nursery pictures with readers and on the wall was this amazing collection.  Mandy thrifted pillowcases, fabric scraps and even the hoops to get this lovely eclectic collection.  Who needs art of the walls when you have fabric?

I can't remember the last time I wore hose, but I do remember the last time I used some to silk screen a unicorn.  Little known fact: embroidery hoop, hose, fabric paint and decoupage medium and you are ready to start screening all the T-shirts for your band.  In my case it was a little less punk-rock since it was onesies, but you could do either. Pop over to my blog Naughty Secretary Club for the full tutorial.

Monograms have come a long way since the obligatory hand towel wedding gift.  Take for example this adorable M by Crystal at a Pumpkin & a Princess .  This baby is all no sew.  Crystal stopped by UCreate to share this adorable tutorial.  As someone who loves fabric, but hates sewing (ugh ironing) projects like this are perfect ways for me to play.

Join me tomorrow with 5 more hoop-tastical projects.
