Burlap Covered Pumpkins

It's been rainy here almost all week and temps have been in the high 80's-low 90's so it actually feels like fall is on the way. That's saying a lot for Texas...in early September! I wanted to share this cute little pumpkin makeover in hopes I can force fall to get here quicker! It's working, I feel it!

You can see the larger pumpkin is unraveling a bit :(

I got the set for $5

I got these little wicker pumpkins at Goodwill in March and right away I knew I wanted to redo them. They were cute, but I'd be using them more for fall/Thanksgiving, than I would be for Halloween so I thought I'd recover them. That proved a little more difficult that I thought because they have lids, so they're uneven and not really round.  My original plan to cover them in book pages didn't pan out. At all! I was hoping they could coordinate with my Fall Book Page Wreath, but alas it wasn't meant to be. What I wound up with is better than what I had originally envisioned! That's a good tip folks: Don't get so caught up in your idea that you give up when things go wrong!

I have yards of burlap on hand right now, so I got it out and got to covering. I wanted my pumpkins to have a rustic look, meaning I was too lazy to do any kind of real measuring, so I roughly measured enough burlap to cover and gathered it at the top. I used hot glue to attach the burlap and several fingers were burned in this process. No pain, no gain right?

My fall porch...so far!

You'll notice that each pumpkin is different, but they all coordinate. That's partially because I couldn't decide what I liked better so I used book pages and craft paper for the leaves. Grapevine wire, raffia, and paper twine were used for the pumpkin vines. I used natural and brown burlap to cover the pumpkins, and combined the two fabrics on the larger pumpkin to bring everything together.

I love the natural colors and the variety of texture these pumpkins have. They still kind of coordinate with my wreath, so all in all I'm thrilled! Now I've got my own unique pumpkin patch for less than $10!

This board was part of a shelving unit that I sprayed with chalkboard paint!

Happy little pumpkins, 1, 2, 3!
