I have been working on a fundraising event for our local high school jazz program. There will be a more complete post about this fun-filled event in the next couple of weeks. But, in working on the decorations, I came across a great resources I wanted to share.
For our event, we decided to create chalkboard signs in keeping with our coffeehouse theme. Purchasing chalkboards can be expensive and hand-writing them can be tedious - especially if you are a perfectionist like I am. Generally, I prefer to work on my computer where I can quickly edit and tweak until something is just right.
I purchased inexpensive wood frames from Michaels which could be used as-is or quickly stained to a darker wood. In working to create the signage for the event, I came across a terrific tutorial and downloadable chalkboard background from The Gunny Sack. Tonia created a perfect chalkboard image that you can easily insert as the background in a simple Word text box. She has links to a variety of chalkboard fonts you could use or you can just use the "Chalkboard" font that comes as part of your computer's standard font package.
The signs are perfect for our event! If you want an easy way to create chalkboard signs yourself, be sure to check out Tonia's tutorial at her blog, The Gunny Sack.
Do you have a great tool you like to use? Share it with us! We'd love to know about it.
