Guest Post: DIY Outdoor Buffet Labels

To me, there is nothing more gratifying than walking out of a store with free (NOT STOLEN) merchandise. Maybe it comes from that childhood feeling of euphoria when you’d swipe a piece of candy from the grocery store.

Don’t act like you never reached into the “sample” candy station without putting your nickel in first.

The fact of the matter is that DIYers love to do things for cheap, or free. Preferably the latter. We’re not too shy to pick up 50+ paint chips for a project. Or a party, for that matter. I always try to incorporate my DIY projects into parties I host. And next month, I’ll be throwing my daughter a garden party. I’ve been on the hunt for some free party favors or things to use as decor for our backyard.

So I went to the hardware store and looked for anything without a price tag-pallets, samples, unusable wood, whatever. I figured I could find a way to use them, since outdoor garden parties have that rustic feel to them. I left with a pallet and some vinyl and hardwood floor samples.

After some trial runs, I came up with something brilliant: “wood” labels for drinks and dessert jars, instead of using printables from the Internet. I could hang the samples from mason jars, or they could even serve as place holders. That’s how this project came to be. And I’m so excited to share it with you today.
