Growing up, it was rare to find trinkets with my name on it. They had Christine and Christian, but not Christina (and I don't think Christina is a unique name by any means). My daughter's Korean name (and the one we use most often for her nickname) is Yuna and call me crazy, but I don't think I'll find her name on any keychains or mugs any time soon.
I thought it would be cute to make a little license plate, but when I went online they were $5-15 each! So! I decided to make my own. And for a fraction of the cost (about $1.50 per plate), the result is something cute and special! I even made an extra one as a gift for a friend (who incidentally has a unique name). So, until vendors start printing up Apple and Coco onto their merchandise, this is a super easy project.
What you need:
wooden rectangle board (I used a precut 3" x 7" size)
paint
puffy paint
paintbrush
wire or string
Most of the personalized plates sold are the old style California plates with the blue background and yellow writing. I wanted an updated version, so I used the white background with blue writing. But choose the colors based on your state's design.
Brush on one to two coats of paint onto the board. Use the puffy paint to design the plate and write the child's name. For the month/year stickers, I used the child's birth month and year as an extra personalized touch.
Let the paint dry and then drill 2 holes into the board. Insert the ends of the wire into the holes, make a loop and twist the ends.
Then you have a personalized memento to hang on a wall, door, or in my daughter's case, her car!
