This is my seventh time writing this post, so apologies if it's a bit terse. I'm going to try to write it all up and then do all the linking and stuff and see if it saves my sanity a bit. Needless to say, blogger and I are barely speaking at this point (though it isn't strictly blogger's fault that the only time it managed to automatically save was the one time I accidentally posted a random link over everything). So, as promised, I have a few finished objects to show off. My friend Jen is expecting a baby girl soon and I knew that I wanted to make her something, but I wasn't sure what. Jen works in the music industry and loves fashion, cats, and food. She isn't into typical baby girl pink. I tried to translate that into something cute for a chic NYC baby girl, and I thought it would be the most fun to make her an outfit. Since there's a chance baby Juliette will inherit her mom's red hair, I thought greeny blues would have lots of flattering potential.I wanted to make something in the 6-month-old range, since we don't have much need for knitwear here in the summers (at least, those of us who don't have to deal with office a/c). I thought the perfect way to start off would be with a great little jacket. Enter Redingote.
You might recognize Redingote from a fewearlier blog posts. The directions and I didn't get along in certain places, but I hope you'll agree that my issues didn't stop this from being a completely charming little piece of knitwear. An actual coat would have been nice, but the neck is more than wide enough to pull over, so I decided not to rip when I realized that I was misled by the joining instructions. Other than the mods I was forced into by that issue, I followed the pattern without changes. If I were making this again, though, I think I would try to work out a different construction method for the shoulders -- I think short rows could have saved me a number of ends woven in.I used madelinetosh tosh vintage in Nebula for the body and Cove for the i-cord. I absolutely love this yarn and I really like the way the colors worked together. The cherry on top was the perfect little buttons that I found at Brooklyn General. Aren't they exactly right for a band manager mama?
