Wino! DIY Coasters!

How cute are these coasters?

Having a husband in the wine industry means we have A LOT of corks laying around. No, it's not from all the wine we drink (I Promise)...but it is pretty cool...I mean think of all the project possibilities? I even have a full Pintrest board dedicated to cork projects. Though like most things on Pintrest..."I say ooohh, how cute"...pin it...and then forget it.
But today we actually attempted our first cork project and I will say these coasters came out pretty cute! So if you want to give it a try (I am sure you have some corks laying around, right?) here is how we did it.

What You Need:

  • Wine Corks (We used about 3 per coaster)
  • Plain Coasters (We used old ones that needed some sprucing up)
  • A Steamer
  • Serrated Knife
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • A leveler (did you know you have a leveler on your IPhone!)

Step 1:
For your first step you want to steam your corks for appx 5 min. This will make them softer to cut and work with. You really can use any knife. I just used a kitchen knife.

Step 2:
Once you have softened them and laid them out to cut, place them on your coaster in the design you want before glueing. Then you can make sure the corks are level and steady so your drinks won't come crashing down!(Ok, my drinks always come crashing down with two kids and a pup...but let's pretend for the sake of the project that the house is quiet, classical music is playing, and you are curling up to a good book with your Merlot).
Once you have cut your corks even and made sure they are the same height it's time for the fun part, GLUE (I've been around a toddler for too long, getting so excited about glue and all:)

Step 3:
After you have glued and dried everything it's time for the hard part....put your coaster to work!! We love these so much already because the glasses; whatever they may be, water, wine, sippy cups don't slide.

And there you have it! Now, get busy...while I search for more ways I can glue corks together!
