Oh how I wish I had taken a before picture of this candelabra before I revamped it. I found it at my favorite thrift store and walked around with it while I made up my mind if I was going to buy it or not. Do you ever do that or am I the only one? This piece was brown wood and covered with sticky dust that been on it for a long time. It also had dusty plastic green flowers woven through it. Ewwww!.
I finally convinced myself that this was a diamond in the rough and at $4.99 it was a bargain. When I got it home the first step was to clean it with a damp cloth and get rid of those horrid plastic flowers. For the second cleaning I used some wood cabinet cleaner which took care of the built up dusty grease. Yes, there is such thing as dusty grease.
Sometimes when I spray paint I end up with drips. Drippy paint marks are a quick way to ruin a project. For this job I bought White Valspar Paint + Primer in one. No drips, no fuss, no muss. I gave it two coats and it came out just perfect. It’s lovely on its own, with just candles but I’m a bling kinda gal and wanted to give it some sparkle.
The acrylic garland came from efavormart and I got five strands for (3 ft each) for $14.99. Another bargain!!!. The pink acrylic drops have little magnets and area actually meant for attaching to lamps. I say they can be attached to anything except electronic devices. They were not on my radar while at Pier 1 last winter but I was thrilled that they jumped into my basket.
I like having the option to change the decorations on this to fit any color palette or theme. I can see this being on a shabby chic table or in a romantic setting. What really helped convey the shabby chic feeling of this thrift store makeover is the table cover.
Back in the fall Charisse gave us a walk through of her new home . In the room that is now Gabbi’s I couldn’t take my eyes off the sheers on the window. My daughter knows me very well. She said, “You want to use these on a table don’t you?” They were way to cute to toss in the trash so now they’re mine. Sometimes I feel like Fred Sanford scavenging through throw aways. At any rate they were perfect for this setting. Have you found any good thrift finds lately, inquiring minds would like to know?
