After visiting Darling Boutique in Wasilla last weekend, I've been obsessed with this single decoration that they had in their shop: a ceiling-to-floor wall/window paper art piece. It was book pages, strung with fishing line. Probably a good ten of them. Like I said, they hung them from the ceiling to the floor. I wish I'd gotten a picture of it. Twas gorgeous.
I set about trying to figure out how they did it. It was fairly simple, turns out. I bought some fishing wire ($7.99) and a needle ($.89) and used one of my very favorite old books from L.M. Montgomery, Rilla of Ingleside. Thought I'd share it with you.
Here we go!
First, start by ripping out the pages of the book gently. This may be a little tedious - just be careful and patient.
Next is an optional step that I definitely took, since I wanted the optimal antiqued look. Using a platter and coffee (mine was a day old and cold - it doesn't matter), stain your sheets of paper.
The third step is to let the coffee-stained papers dry. If you're not doing this step, proceed. I'm going to eat a bowl of cereal while my pages get dry.
Self-explanatory.
This step is really easy. Be sure not to pull the needle through - only puncture with the tip. Otherwise the hole becomes too large and your knots in your fishing line will slip right through.
Triple knot your fishing line at one end. Slide a piece of paper on.
Be sure your knots are evenly spaced. I didn't do too well in that department - not gonna lie.
Once you've strung all your papers on, you have a cute little wall or window hanging! Personally, I like them in windows, but mine have awful blinds on the windows so it wouldn't work too well. I have it up against my purple wall by the bookshelf.
You're done!
Good job!
