Chalkboard Decor
I finally found a chalkboard for my kitchen. I was on a shopping trip with a friend and found one I loved at World Market. And bonus it was in sale! I was so excited to write on it and hang it up. You can follow these simple steps to create pretty chalkboard sign. Here’s what I did…
First, decide what you want to say. I wanted a Bible verse for Thanksgiving. Then, measure your board. Next, design your wording on a program like Publisher, choosing the fonts and layout you like. Print out your design. It just so happens that my boards are each 8.5″ x 11″. If yours is bigger than a paper, you may want to have a copy place enlarge it. Or you can print out an enlarged version on several pieces of paper.
Now you’re ready to transfer your deign to your board. I took a piece of my kids’ sidewalk chalk and covered the back of the paper with it. Before placing it on the chalkboard, shake off the excess dust. Place the paper gently on the chalkboard. You could tape down your paper. Then, taking a pencil, trace the lettering on the paper. This will transfer your design to the chalkboard.
Now, you can take a skinny piece of chalk directly on the board to darken the transferred design. I had a wet paperwork handy in case I messed up. I had to use it a bunch. I even had to retrace one section. The result:
I was pretty pleased for my first attempt.
And the kids thought it was going to be a chore chart.
