Ballard Designs Knockoff | Pet Food Tin

Hey y’all!

I’m a little late today, but better late than never, right?

Have any of you noticed how hard it is to find cat things in stores? I guess if you don’t have a cat you’re not too concerned but since we rescued Ms. Kay from being a street walker, I’ve found it extremely difficult to find cute kitty stuff. Molly has a pretty sweet dog food tin from Home Goods and I think it’s only fair Ms. Kay has one too. The only cat food tin I’ve seen is from Ballard Designs but I don’t really feel like selling my right kidney to afford one so I figured I’d make my own version.

On a recent trip to Ikea I saw these cute tin trash cans and thought it would be perfect to store Ms. Kay’s food. It was a little plain so I made this design and cut the vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo.

Cat font: Adobe Caslon Pro | Food font: Bickham Script Pro Regular

Premium Vinyl in Medium Grey from Bogo Vinyl

All done!

And here are some bloopers since photographing cats is not the easiest thing to do.

Curious as to how much I saved?

Ballard Designs version: $45

My version: Ikea tin: $14.99 + Vinyl: $5.99 (with plenty leftover) = $20.98 Over half the price of Ballard’s!
