I love Easter for many reasons, but the main one is the kitsch factor. Creme eggs being a close second.
Easter is that holiday where tacky crafts are fully embraced and, in my case, coveted. I have quite an extensive collection of vintage Easter memorabilia made with questionable taste as is, but each year I like to get crafty and add to the stash. Last year I made sugar egg dioramas; this year I made them with yarn.
You Will Need:
- Large paper mache egg
- Tacky glue
- Sheepish yarn
- Scissors
- White craft paint
- Pink glitter
- Craft knife
- Mini ball fringe
- Google eyes
- Craft felt
Using a craft knife, cut a hole in the front of your egg to make it a diorama. Most of these eggs are actually plastic covered in brown paper. Be careful with the knife.
Decide on the color and pattern of your egg. I opted for polka dots.
Cut your yarn into small manageable strands about a yard in length. On one area at a time, apply glue and coil your yarn into the wet glue.
Completely coat your egg with yarn and trim excess strands around the hole in the diorama.
Paint the inside of your egg white. While the paint is still wet, coat it with glitter.
Make two yarn pompons. One should be slightly smaller than the other. Attach the pompoms to each other using glue with the smaller pompom on top.
Add as much detail as you like: ears, eyes and a nose. When you are happy with how your rabbit looks, glue him inside your egg.
Add any finishing touches like pompom fringe around the door.
Display your egg diorama.
These are super fun to make with kids or a group of girlfriends.
