How to make a book page wreath

I can't get enough of wreaths...  I just love them!  What I don't love is the pricey price  tags or fake flowers or any of that nonsense.  I do just so happen to have this old dictionary that has done well for me.  My mom gave it to me when I told her I wanted to put book pages on the floor of our classroom.   I've used it for photo pages in my kitchen, book page flowers and now book page wreaths and I still have like 800 pages left!  Now that is a gift that keeps on giving!

Here is a finished photo of my book page wreath...

I know, I know, what a boring photo!  Where is the staging, where is the color?  I'm getting to it!  Geez, I just started my holiday decorating and I'm taking the time to share this awesome tutorial with you.  Seriously, it is awesome.  This wreath took me all of about 30 minutes to make.

The first thing you need to do is surgically extract the pages from the book... Scalpel!!!  You do this by cutting the binding thread and pulling the pages out in chunks.  You don't need to cut the whole binding, you don't want your precious pages falling out all over the place!  You cut just what you need- don't get greedy...
Then trim the bound edge of the pages with a scissors to get them all apart and into singles.

Next, grab your tape and get ready to roll...and roll...and roll until you feel like Willy Nelson in 1972.

Once you've done this about 75 times, you should end up with something like this...

Here is where you have to get out the really expensive materials.  Personally, I used the lid of the pizza box we ordered for dinner...  I'm sure foam board would work nicely as well.
I like to draw a couple circles, depending on how large you want your wreath.  My yellow plate is about 9 1/2" across and the glass bowl is about 4 1/2".  You want to keep them as centered as possible.  Again, a compass would work really well, but truly, who really owns a compass these days unless you are a 4th grade teacher?  Wait, I'm a 4th grade homeschooling teacher...  Totally different... Maybe I should get a compass.

I try to work in quarters so that the cones don't get all wonky, so start at the top or 12 o'clock and work to 3 o'clock, turn your paper and so on.  Hot glue the cones with the peak facing up with the point about and inch below the line.

Now that you can see how far your cones with stretch on the board, I would suggest cutting it to size now.  Otherwise it's really hard.  I know this because in a few more steps I'm cussing this wreath out because of how hard it is to cut the board with 75 cones glued to it.

Now you continue doing the same thing with the inner circle.
And again in the middle.  In the middle, you will need to cup your cones (hee.hee) so that they are standing straight up and glue like crazy.  You could always add something else in the middle, but I wanted this to be any season decor.

Add a ribbon and a window and BOOM!  Your in business.
Add some holiday flare, some glitter, ornaments, whatever floats your Christmas boat.  Get crazy!  I'd love to see some finished products!
