Nothing says Easter like Peeps candy. Even if you have never tasted the hot pink sugar-coated goodness of these little marshmallow bunnies, you are familiar with them.
This year I thought I would save a few calories and weave a Peep rather than eat one.
SUPPLIES
- Loom
- Thick yarn in: hot pink, blue and green
- Twine
- 3 black pompoms
- Wood dowel
- Drawing of Peep
- Tape
- Craft glue
The first thing I did was draw a Peep bunny. Needless to say, this was not hard. I taped the drawing to the back of my loom to use as a guide.
Next, use white twine to create the warp. This is the thread you will weave on.
Please refer to my woven journal cover tutorial for a more detailed guide to weaving.
Starting with your green yarn for the grass, begin following your pattern with the weft. The weft is the yarn you are weaving with.
Over and under, over and under. I used thicker yarn because it makes things go much faster.
The tricky part of this project was the curves of the bunny and where different colors met up. I was having problems with gaps and such.
That is no hill for a stepper. Using glue, I outlined my bunny with pink yarn to cover any weaving boo-boos.
Peeps don’t have mouths, but they do have eyes and a nose. Using glue and small black pompoms, I granted my weaving the ability to see and smell.
Once you are done, cut your warp off of the loom. I tied knots at the end and on the top tied it to a dowel.
Feel free to get fancy and add fringe, paint your dowel or get your pompom on. I kinda like the rough edges of the twine myself.
So there you have it. The joy of Peeps without the cavities but the same rush you get from the sugar.
