When it comes to home decor, I believe that incorporating pieces passed down from your family is where magic really starts to happen. Those pieces are apart of your history. They have a story, a piece of your heart if you will. It is decor for your home that is priceless. It can't be found in a store, or on a website that sells mass produced products. It can be found on your own home grown roots.

When I began brainstorming a way to cover our fireplace, not only as a distraction for our two young boys, but also for a beautiful visual; I knew I wanted to utilize my great grandmothers' quilting squares. She was an avid quilter. She taught me how to sew my first 12x12 pillow for a third grade project. From there I have tried my best to do her skills justice! It's still a work in progress, but for now I will just keep practicing. I took a few of her quilting squares and assembled them onto an antique window I picked up at a local antique store. I attached corbels on the front to keep it from falling over.

I love what our new fireplace cover brings to our family room. I am reminded of my great , grandmother on a daily basis, and I love that. I can't wait to tell my boys what those quilting squares mean to me. Keeping memories alive brings so much more love into our home. It's history making a come back.

Have you used handed down treasures from your family as decor in your home? Do you want to cover/conceal your fireplace now that it's warming up outside? If so this would be a great alternative to the usual wire shower curtain that isn't so visually appealing!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our new DIY vintage fireplace cover! I hope you loved it!

xoxo,

Bridgett Shepherd
