Is there anyone out there that remembers painting in art class as a child? Or anyone that still remembers Bob Ross's television show? I'll always remember art class as a kid, and I'll always remember Bob Ross's show too. Yet I was never an adept painter. I was more of the paint-by-number type of girl, and even then I still struggled when it got to those weird sections like a KB blend. I mean that's just not a number, and I was already lost by that point. Yet Paint Nite is entirely different, and not something impossible for even entry level painters. The best thing about Paint Nite is using it as a girl's night out away from our significant others for a bit!
There's also nothing that beats a greeting by Bob Ross when you walk in too… That's just extra special.
You get to also walk by an amazing painting when you come in made by the artist, and you know you'll get to make the same thing too. Although each person adds their own touch. This in and of itself is something inspiring, because it really highlights how everyone is unique even with the same "prompt" so to speak. You're feeling great by now, and then this happens...
You're actually getting a blank canvas. Blank! Yet with the Paint Nite oath of not saying something negative about how our painting is coming, and not throwing it across the room. It's actually quite a nice oath, and it really brings to light the situation of the daunting white canvas in front of you.
Plus when you're literally working with just primary colors, the white canvas seems even more daunting. Yet throughout the whole night you become amazed at white colors you can actually create.
Then you simply go right into it and follow some of the basic instructions from your artist of the evening, and even then you're not limited in what you can do. You also get some amazing tips along the way, so if you ever did decide to paint from home, you then get some of the foundations you may have forgotten or never known.
A finished "Crazy Daisy" by myself, and half of this I don't even remember getting some of those colors for. Yet it makes it so much fun because you really look and see the progress from nothing to something. The best part is creating with a friend on Paint Nite, and seeing how even just the two of you have different techniques.
A creative drinking night done, and you can take home what you make, as well as some memories. Get on out there and see what they have for your areas, because if anything else it's just a great thing to do - no matter your skills with a paint brush.
