Our house has one bathroom and it's tiny. So since it is a one-stop-shop for the household and guests, I wanted it to look its best. As Shakespeare would say "and though she be but little she is fierce." To make it more "fierce," and stylish we first added paint.
After going through a number of paint colors (2) and not liking any of my paint jobs we finally settled on Kendall Gray by Benjamin Moore. I liked how the blog Dear Lillie used the paint color in her dining room. I was worried about putting a dark color in a small space but the white tile over half of the wall keeps it feeling crisp and light.
Here is a before shot of the bathroom.
As you can see we had this awkward corner toliet. I'd never actually seen one of these before living in this house. We replaced the toilet--which was old and kept running water and the pedestal sink because it had a large crack down the side. The sink and toilet are similar looking but now are more functional and less awkward.
To add more storage we drilled some wire baskets from Decor Steals into the wall. The baskets are filled with towels, and jars of toiletries--cotton balls and Q-tips.
I also added a fake plant from Ikea and a calming print I liked by Emily Jeffords. She has some beautiful artwork on Etsy. You should check her out!
Last but not least we added a new light fixture to get rid of the old-style movie globe lights above the medicine cabinet. They may be Marilyn Monroe's thing but not my thing.
Here is a before shot:
We replaced it with a light fixture from Shades of Light. It is called the Pullman Light Fixture.
Putting in the ceiling fan, light fixture, and installing the new toilet and sink was one of those projects I was glad to leave up to the professionals. After spending hours rehanging a door in an un-even door frame in our old house (and cussing up a storm) we've learned to pick our battles.
I'd be curious to know how other people make the most of a small bathroom. Let me know if you have any tips.
