Thrift Store Farmhouse Swag

This week, I have decided to create a fun series focused on some of my thrift store finds and how I transformed them into farmhouse lovelies.   I am a huge proponent of thrift stores.  I have found so many treasures there and have furnished my home with many items you would never know were thrifted.  So I have decided the next few post will be focused on some of the fun transformations I have created with these thrift store items. Today's feature is a set of canisters I found at my local thrift store.  They were...cough cough....4 dollars for all!  I could see the potential right away!  I ran to my local True Value store and bought up some white spray paint.   I really should have an endless supply of it.  When I got home, the first thing I did was give them all a good washing.

Use Lemon Oil to Clean

Scrub a dub dub, 4 canisters in a tub.

******TIP TIME!******Trying to get that sticky residue from store tags off your items, use Lemon Oil!  It takes it right off!  I recommend DoTerra brand oil, since it is what I use religiously.

Another use is to get spray paint off your fingers!  I am not the smartest and forget to put gloves on when I spray.  Lemon Oil will take it right off!

Now back to business.....

Since I was painting the whole canister white, I didn't need to tape anything off.  BONUS.  I set all the canisters upside down on newspaper ready to be sprayed.  Here they all are done being painted.

Okay I lied, I did tape the lid handles, but I didn't like them black so I painted them white too.

Once they had dried for a few hours I brought them in and sanded them slightly to add some character.  They still didn't look finished, so I brought out my stencils.  I ended up stenciling Flour, Sugar, Coffee, and Tea on them.  Thrift Store Farmhouse Swag

I love the names on the lids.  Such a cool touch.

And here they are all done!  I am super please with how they turned out!  With a can of spay paint and a stencil I was able to transform these dated canisters into an stylish set that any farmhouse fan would love.  I hope you do :)   I would love to hear from you!  Tell me what you think!
