Today is Dr. Seuss' birthday. Who isn't a Dr. Seuss fan?! There are so so many reasons to love Dr. Seuss.
Dr. Seuss books have been family favorites around here since nearly day one...In fact, for Violet's third birthday we decided to celebrate Seuss and have an all Seuss birthday party! (I told you I was like this before the blog...)
So, in honor of his birthday today, I thought I'd share some of our Seus crafts and games from the the past...
First I had to “Think and wonder, wonder and think” (Dr. Seuss) of what to do for a bunch of young kiddos at a Seuss themed birthday party.
I had to “Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!” (Dr. Seuss)
I searched the internet and found some things, “From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!” (Dr. Seuss, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish)
But, the truth was, I wasn't finding fun things for little kiddos...So I came up with some of my own...
We started off with a handmade birthday invitation from Dr. Seuss' Birthday book...
Brad wrote a clever little rhyme inside, he's good like that.
Next, thanks to Michaels I made some One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish decorations
We had a fun game of "Seussory"...Memory with Dr. Seuss book covers (also purchased at Michaels).
I used the cardboard "book covers", made a swirly back on card stock and laminated them all with contact paper to make this fun game of memory...
We played Up, Up, Up...
Which was basically getting the kiddos to try to see how much they could carry and balance...
We had ring the gack...which we still play in our backyard...
I made a giant Cat in the Hat felt board and hung it. The hats (again, from Michaels) were backed with felt so that they would stick to the cat.
The goody bags had pinwheels in them and shrinky dink Cat in the Hat magnets and cat in the hat book marks (which Violet helped me to laminate with contact paper)...
Oh, there were also Horton the Elephant ears for each kiddo to wear...
I wrapped headbands with blue ribbon...cut Horton ears out of blue craft foam and then pushed blue pipe cleaners through the foam and wrapped it around the headband...they were adorable!
We decorated with Dr. Seuss books from the library and from our own shelves...
This is a fun and inexpensive way to decorate for kiddo parties. We did it last year too. We planned to do it this year, but someone, I won't mention names...didn't want to put any clothes on the morning we were to go to the library...Anywho, the books are fun to have around for a parent to pluck one down to read for an impromptu story time.
I also made this little photo prop...
And, of course, a Cat in the Hat birthday cake that was seriously ambitious and looked like it was about to topple (it had reinforcements)...
It was great fun!! I admit, I did go a little overboard...It was Violet's first friend invited birthday party...I got a bit excited...and besides, “I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells."(Dr. Seuss)
And, just before I go, I thought I just had to share this adorable picture of the birthday girl ready and waiting for her friends to arrive...So LITTLE! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss...
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” (Dr. Seuss, Happy Birthday to You!)
