Remember going to the Department Store and seeing all the new fashions on display in the windows? Remember seeing all the headless bodies to display all those fashions? Ever wonder what they were made of and took a peek under the clothes, only to get run out of the store?? Well, I didn't actually DO that, but I have always wondered how the bodies were made and where they came from. They looked so life-like (except for the missing head) that I thought they must have "next-of-kin" somewhere...so started my quest to find "Little Miss Man-a-kin". (I know that's not the correct spelling, it's just fun to see in print). LOL
I've searched second hand stores, e-bay, craigslist and the like for quite some time. It seems I was always the second one in line. You know, "The I'll call you next if the person before you doesn't take it" second in line. I was so frustrated trying to find Little Miss that I decided to make one for myself. Now if only I had one to go by....
My break finally came this week when I answered an ad and low & behold, not only did the seller call me back, but she was willing to work around my schedule and let me come take a look! I came, I saw, the price was right, she fit in the back seat of my car and it was a done deal! The bonus is... you know when you meet some people you just know if you had time for coffee you'd be the greatest of friends because you share the same visions, ideas & inspirations? Well that happened here. We laughed, we shared, we answered each others questions about furniture re-dos, up-dos and makeovers! We shared our love of everything vintage and where to find the coolest treasures.
It's funny, we both have the same vision for our Little Miss. We can both see her, stabelized, with a new hard-body and covered in old French Script or in my case old vintage paterns. I can't wait to get started on her. It's going to be fun!
I hope to get some help here soon, so I can post pics on here. As soon as I can, I'll give you my tutorial for Little Miss Man-a-kin".
