Scents of Fall- DIY

So, when Davie and I were registering things before we got married I told him we MUST have a Crockpot. I read all of these wonderful recipes and how easy it is, so I decided it was one of the necessary things.

When I received my Crockpot at the bridal shower it was so excited! I dreamed of the wonderful things I could make in it.

After we came home from the honeymoon I went all out with dinners, I even set the table beautifully and lit candles. Buutttt, that only lasted about a week and a half. I work full time in NYC and by the time I get home from my commute I don't feel like standing if front of the stove for hours. Then, I remember the Crockpot! Such a wonderful day! One Sunday I planned out a whole week's worth of meals in the Crockpot. I put them in Ziploc baggies and when it came time to cook them, I just plopped it into the crock pot, set it and left it (and prayed my house wouldn't burn down).

Well, maybe I had bad recipes, or maybe I was gone for too long, or maybe it was a combo of everything. It was definitely easy but it tastedHORRIBLE. I tried it a couple of more times but it never came out any better. So I put my wonderful Crockpot away never to be used again.

Until, one day Davie was talking about how he wanted our apartment to embrace the season of Autumn, the beautiful smells, and color, and lighting. So, I jumped on Pinterest one day and found a different use for my Crockpot. A huge natural candle! All you do it put some beautiful smelling things in water in your Crockpot, turn it on a voilaAutumn in your home!

So, I decided to test it out, and it really worked! Below is the recipe I used but feel free to adapt it. I will definitely be trying new recipes as the season change and I will keep you updated on them.

Ingredients
1 Orange (sliced)
1 Gala Apple (sliced)
15 clove buds
2 cinnamon sticks
1 cap of vanilla extract (I know that is not scientific but guesstimate. :) )

Recipe
1. Slice all ingredients.

2. Fill Crockpot with water and place oranges in.

3. Add in apples.

4. Then add in the rest.

5. Turn your Crockpot on for the desired amount of time on low. I put the lid on but left it open a little to let the scent out.

Or, you can just throw everything in at once, you don't need to arrange it beautifully :)

This is a heavenly scent to walk into after a long day out and really put you in the mood for sweaters, leaves changing, and cool breezes.

Yay for a new season!!
