How To Make Christmas Mason Jar Candles
My sister's wedding is fast approaching. She's getting married around Christmas time in Nashville and the whole family is in a flurry of activity to get the arrangements done in time. The Save the Date invite featured a Mason Jar (from the etsy shop Noted Occasions). Here is an example wedding invitation from the same site:
It's so cute! It makes me think in retrospect I shouldn't have spent hours formatting, printing, and re-printing my own invitations, but I admire my sister's good taste. My mom and sister came up with the idea of decorating the reception hall--the carriage house at Belle Mede Plantation with Winter Mason Jars & tealights. Much of the reception hall will already be decorated with lights and greenery, but they wanted to tie in the theme from the invitations and give it a southern wedding feel.
Here is a view of the Carriage House from the outside:
To make the Mason Jar Candles you need:
*Assorted Mason Jars
*Tea lights, or slightly taller candles
*Epsom salt (to look like snow)
*Spray Adhesive
*Fake Greenery (We cut up a faux spruce garland and used some fake holly. Both were from JoAnn Fabrics)
*Faux cranberries
*Pinecones (we picked mini pinecones from the backyard and purchased the glittered pinecones)
*A roll of Lace and Burlap
*Twine, ribbon, or colored raffia (We used natural and red raffia for Christmastime)
If you want to place a candle on the lid of the Mason Jar instead of inside the jar, you can also purchase a lid that has a small inset for a candle (here).
They also have wire hangers for the Mason Jars to make the jars into hanging lanterns (here).
We used the spray adhesive to attach the lace and the burlap to the sides of the jars. Then poured in the Epsom salt and secured the candle in the middle of the jar. Some of the jars were stuffed like potpourri with a variety of the greenery, berries and pinecones--and without the candle at all! It was fun playing around with different combinations.
I'm looking forward to seeing these lit at the reception. What about you? Are you planning for Christmas early this year?
