woodwickOne of the new crazes with candles it Wooden Wicks. While a wood wick is not a new concept, it has picked up steam in the past few years. What is it about the wood wick people love so much. Is there any downsides?

Pros to Wooden Wicks.

Wooden wicks have some amazing pros. They look cool when not lit. They smell great when not lit too. The main benefit is the hot throw wood wicks give. They give a nice light bonfire scent. This won’t be over powering for most, and will set a nice cozy or romantic feeling. Many wood wicks also claim to be self trimming, so the need to have correct wick length could be a thing of the past for you. Wood Wicks provide a nice soft crackling sound as well.

Cons to Wooden Wicks.

The biggest con to a wooden wick is soot. The black stuff that cakes up on the rim of the candle. This is only a small amount of soot that is going into the air from the candle. if you have Asthma, or a baby in your house, stay away from a wooden wick. When soot goes into your air it will go into your lungs. In the winter time home air is filled with chemicals, germs, and toxins. The cleaner your air, the healthier you are.
The flame can get large. Also they burn hotter than a traditional wick. This means a shorter candle life. With kids and pets, sometimes having a large hot flame is not always a great thing. One of the benefits to soy candles is that they burn cool and slow. Making them safer, and longer lasting for you and your family.

Wood Wicks are a nice idea for special occasions. As we sit, it is not a practical idea to have only wooden wicks, do to the heat, flame size, and soot they produce. However for a nice date night, a wood wick candle could be a great choice.
