KCBW: A Mascot Project

So yesterday I was sorted into the House of Monkey for Knit & Crochet Blog Week, and today it's time for me to share a project that embodies the characteristics of the house.  As a reminder, we monkeys are defined by our interest in fun, challenging projects where we can learn something new.

As it happens, I have exactly the right project for this.  Last year my college roommate had her first baby and I wanted to make him something really special.  I saw the Sleepy Monkey pattern in Twist Collective and I knew I had to have it.  But, I wanted to tweak it a little.

Instead of making 13 monkeys in Aran weight, I had something a little more ambitious in mind.  Okay, a lot more ambitious.

I redesigned the blanket to have 114 monkey faces, made in more madelinetosh (Tosh Sock this time - love).  On each row, there is one special monkey, mostly made by finding special faces other ravelers included in their blankets.

In addition to happy monkey and sleepy monkey, I have tongue-out monkey, sad monkey, girl monkey, pirate monkey, and a bunch of others.  (What I don't have is close-up pictures because I didn't take any before sending this on to Chicago.)  I think this project really typifies my monkey-crafting style: finding something challenging and making it a bit more me -- even more fun, more difficult, and more interesting to work on.
