Pottery Barn Knockoff | Chalkboard Labels

Hey y’all!

Now that Valentine’s Day is over I’m switching my focus to get back on the organizing train.

This past November I purchased this entertainment center from Wayfair.com because I loved all the storage options and I wanted something more Pottery Barn- esque than what I was working with before.

Corey and I absolutely love it, and I love even more that I didn’t have to spend $3k to get a nice looking entertainment center. I bought the baskets from Target and they are currently housing random junk, eventually I’ll get down to organizing them but before I did that I decided to make some labels first.

I love these Sabrina Basket Chalkboard Labels from Pottery Barn Kids, but not enough to spend $10 each.

$40 for chalkboard labels, um no.

While on one of my many lunch break Michael’s trips I strolled through their new isle with all sorts of cute chalkboard things and found these cute mini easels. I didn’t need mini chalkboard easels but I thought if I could flex some of these muscles I could pull the easel part off, drill some holes and then bam. I’d have chalkboard labels.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Chalkboard easels (Michael’s, on sale for $2.09/each)
  • 1 Screw (Big enough to create a hole for the twine to get through)
  • Hammer
  • Screw Driver
  • Twine

1. Remove the easel, they’re pretty easy to pull apart.

2. Check out that demo.

3. Next I measured the chalkboard label and used a pen to make a mark in the middle for the hole.

4. I think it would’ve been easier to create the hole using a drill but I couldn’t find Corey’s anywhere so I improvised using a screw and a hammer. I am aware screws and hammers don’t go together but the screw would make a bigger hole than a nail.

5. After all the holes were made I cut some twine, making sure it was long enough to tie each end to the inside of the basket. I found twisting the twine through each hole made it easier to string through.

6. Once you’ve attached the label remove the excess twine from your knot and you’re done!

I haven’t decided what’s going in the baskets yet so I haven’t actually labeled them yet.

Pretty dang close to the PBK version, huh?

I bought the chalkboard easels on sale for $2.09 each and I already had the twine so I spent a grand total of $8.36 (plus tax) for these bad boys. #winning

Total Savings:

PBK version: $40 for four labels

My version: $8.36 for four labels

Total Savings: $31.64
